Updated: Friesan Fire
Bettors that held off on taking Friesan Fire when the opening odds were released for the 2009 Preakness Stakes will be rewarded as his odds go from 6/1 to 8/1 to win.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com listed Friesan Fire’s odds to win at 6/1 when the opening odds were released for the Preakness. His current odds sit at 8/1 to win, which make him a mid-range favorite.
Friesan Fire turned in a disappointing performance at the Kentucky Derby in early May, finishing 18th despite being one of the favorites. But oddsmakers haven’t given up on the 3-year old colt, considering his odds are very comparable to other top contenders Pioneerof The Nile (5/1), Mine That Bird (6/1) and Big Drama (9/1).
One of the reason bettors liked Friesan Fire entering the Kentucky Derby is because he had won his previous three races. Considering the sloppy conditions he faced at Churchill Downs when he finished 18th, if the weather holds up at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday, Friesan Fire should bounce back.
