Updated Odds: Luv Gov
The 134th running of the Preakness Stakes is set to start soon and one horse not expected to have a shot of winning is Luv Gov, who is a massive 45/1 long shot.
Luv Gov didn’t get much “luv” from oddsmakers when the odds opened for the 2009 Preakness. He entered as a 35/1 long shot and now oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL have dropped his odds even further to 45/1.
When you look at his recent race history, it’s a little surprising that the 3-year old colt is such a huge long shot. He won his last race at the Maiden Special Weight at Churchill Downs on May 2, and finished second in each of the three races before that outing. So it’s not as though Luv Gov has been a disaster this season, in fact, he’s been rather solid.
Considering Mine That Bird won the Kentucky Derby after being a 50/1 long shot, Luv Gov shouldn’t be counted out at 45/1. But it’s going to be tough for him to knock off filly Rachel Alexandra (8/5), Pioneerof The Nile (5/1) and Mine That Bird (6/1).
The 2009 Preakness Stakes takes place today at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. For complete odds see below, and for general information about this year’s race, be sure to check out our 2009 Preakness Stakes Viewing Guide.
