2014 Preakness Stakes post positions California Chrome horse racing

BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) - The post positions for the 2014 Preakness Stakes have been drawn and Dynamic Impact has grabbed the rail.

Dynamic Impact will start from the No. 1 post position on Saturday at the Preakness, while General A Rod will start in the No. 2 gate. The favorite, California Chrome, drew the No. 3 post position while Ring Weekend grabbed the No. 4 post. Bayern will start out of the No. 5 position while Ria Antonia will start out of the No. 6 gate.

Continuing with the post positions for the 2014 Preakness Stakes, Kid Cruz will start in the No. 7 post while Social Inclusion drew the No. 8 post. Pablo Del Monte will also start from the No. 9 post while Ride On Curlin will have to come from farthest outside after he drew the No. 10 post.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, California Chrome remains the favorite to win the Preakness at 5/8 odds. Social Inclusion has the next-best odds to win at 6/1, while Bayern is 11/1 and Ride On Curlin is 12/1. Some of the mid-range long shots include Kid Cruz at 14/1 and Dynamic Impact at 18/1. General A Rod is also 18/1, while Pablo Del Monte is 20/1 and Ring Weekend is 28/1. Ria Antonia has the longest odds to win at 33/1.

The No. 7 post position has the best winning percentage since 1984. That post has won 23% of the time with seven victories in 30 starts. The No. 6 post has the next-best winning percentage at 17%, while the No. 4 post has won 14% and the No. 3 post has won 10% over the last 30 years.

The No. 9 post has won 8%, the No. 10 post has won %6, and the No. 5, No. 1 and No. 2 post positions have only one 3% of the races since 1984. It's important to note, however, that the No. 10, No. 5, No. 1 and No. 2 posts have only won once apiece despite having different winning percentages.

The 2014 Preakness Stakes will take place on Saturday, May 17 at 6:20PM ET (post time).
