Bayern Preakness Stakes Odds
BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) - Heading into the 2014 Preakness Stakes, Bayern could be a sleeper to challenge California Chrome this weekend.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Bayern is currently 11/1 to win the Preakness Stakes. 2014 Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome remains the favorite at 5/8, while Social Inclusion is 6/1 and Ride On Curlin is 12/1. General A Rod and Dynamic Impact, meanwhile, are 18/1, while Pablo Del Monte is 20/1 and Ring Weekend at 28/1.
Bayern placed second in the Derby Trial on April 26 and third in the Arkansas Derby behind Danza and Ride On Curlin, the latter of which will compete this weekend. He also won his first two races, placing first at a MSW on January 4 and first in the Allowance at February 13.
The biggest question will be if he can handle the distance on Saturday, but he did finish in the money in the Arkansas Derby, which is a 1 1/8 mile race. Whether or not Bayern faced enough premium competition heading into Saturday's race will also be a question heading into this weekend.
History won't be on his side either, as he drew the No. 5 post position on Wednesday. That post has only produced one winner in 29 starts in the past 30 years.
The 2014 Preakness Stakes will take place on Saturday, May 17 at 6:20PM ET.
