Kid Cruz Preakness Stakes Odds
BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) – Kid Cruz will enter Saturday’s 2014 Preakness Stakes as a mid-range long shot to win at Pimlico.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Kid Cruz is 14/1 to win this weekend’s Preakness Stakes. California Chrome remains the favorite at 5/8, while Social Inclusion is 6/1 and Bayern and Ride on Curlin are 12/1, respectively. Dynamic Impact, meanwhile, is 16/1 while General A Rod is 20/1 and both Pablo Del Monte and Ring Weekend are 25/1, respectively. The contender with the longest odds is Ria Antonia, who is a 33/1 long shot.
Kid Cruz is coming off back-to-back wins at the Private Terms on March 8 and the Federico Tesio on April 19. In the Private Terms, he beat out Joint Custody and Matuszak, which are the two horses he beat out more than a month later at the Federico Tesio. (Matuszak finished second in that race while Joint Custody finished third.)
Kid Cruz also placed second at an Allowance on January 26 when he finished behind Undertaker. In his other two career races, he finished first at a Mcl on November 22 and seventh at a MSW on November 3, which was his first career start.
The problem with Kid Cruz’s outlook for the Preakness is that he hasn’t faced stiff competition despite posting great results. One positive is that he’s run in three career races at 1 1/16 miles apiece, and one race (Private Terms) at 1 1/8 miles, so clearly he’s okay with the distances. But he’s never faced the level of competition that he will on Saturday so it’s hard to project how he’ll fare.
The 2014 Preakness Stakes will take place Saturday, May 17 at 6:20PM ET (post time).
