Divining Rod Preakness Odds
PIMLICO, BALTIMORE (The Spread) – After sitting out the Kentucky Derby, could Divining Rod be a sleeper to win the 2015 Preakness Stakes this weekend?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, Divining Rod is currently 20/1 to win the Preakness Stakes, which puts him behind American Pharoah (5/8), Firing Line (4/1), Dortmund (9/2) and Danzig Moon (16/1) in terms of the odds to win.
Divining Rod didn’t race in the Kentucky Derby but is coming off victory in the Grade 3 Coolmore Lexington Stakes on April 11. In fact, he has never finished out of the money in five career races. He also placed third in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby on March 7 and second in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis on January 31.
Given his knack of finishing in the top 3, Divining Rod offers nice value for bettors at 20/1. The problem is that he hasn’t faced the level of competition that contenders like American Pharoah, Firing Line and Dortmund have thrived against in their careers. Still, Divining Rod might be worth a flier if his odds stay around 20/1.
