General A Rod Preakness Odds
BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) – After a disappointing finish in the Kentucky Derby, General A Rod looks for a better showing in this weekend’s 2014 Preakness Stakes.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, General A Rod is currently 20/1 to win the Preakness, which give him the same odds as Strong Mandate and Ring Weekend. California Chrome remains the favorite at 5/8, while Social Inclusion is 5/1 and Danza is 7/1.
General A Rod finished 11th in the Grade I Kentucky Derby, which was his biggest challenge to date. California Chrome, Commanding Curve, Danza and the rest of the field left him in the dirt after he was considered one of the sleepers leading up to the race. It just wasn’t to be for a horse that had a strong track record heading into the first leg of the Triple Crown.
One of the reasons why some believed General A Rod could surprise at Churchill Downs is because he finished third in the Florida Derby behind Constitution and Wildcat Red. He also placed second in the Fountain of Youth and won the Gulfstream Park Derby, so things were apparently heading in the right direction. But instead he posted a dud.
The 2014 Preakness Stakes will take place this Saturday, May 17 at 6:20PM ET (post time). Following his 11th-place finish in the Derby, it’s hard to recommend investing any money in General A Rod this weekend.
