CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - With the 2014 Kentucky Derby a mere hours away, let's take a look at the latest Triple Crown odds.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the best odds for a Triple Crown winner actually that there will be no Triple Crown winner in 2014. California Chrome has the best odds at 9/1, but "No Triple Crown Winner" has odds of 1/12. Wicked Strong is also 33/1 to win there's year's Triple Crown.
Continuing with the odds, Intense Holiday is 50/1 to win the 2014 Triple Crown while Samraat, Dance With Fate and Ride On Curlin are all 75/1, respectively. Vicar's in Trouble, General A Rod, Wildcat Red and Candy Boy are all 100/1, respectively, while Uncle Sigh, Chitu, Medal Count and Tapiture are all 150/1, respectively. Commanding Curve and Harry's Holiday are 200/1, respectively.
The 2014 Kentucky Derby contenders with the longest odds to win the Triple Crown this year are Vinceremos at 250/1 and We Miss Artie at 300/1.
The last Triple Crown winner in horse racing came in 1978 when Steve Cauthen rode Affirmed to victory. There have only been 11 thoroughbreds to win the Triple Crown, with three coming in the 1970s, four coming in the 1940s and three coming in the 1930s. Sir Barton was the first Triple Crown winner in 1919.
Tonight's Kentucky Derby will take place at 6:24PM ET (post time). California Chrome remains the current favorite at 5/2.
