Vicar's In Trouble vs. Wildcat Red

Vicar's In Trouble Wildcat Red 2014 Kentucky Derby odds

CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - Will Wildcat Red finish ahead of Vicar's In Trouble today at the 2014 Kentucky Derby? Let's check out the odds.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Wildcat Red is a -140 money line favorite over Vicar's In Trouble, who is a +110 money line underdog. Wildcat Red also has the better odds to win the race overall at 16/1, while Vicar's In Trouble is a 25/1 long shot.

Vicar's In Trouble is coming off a win in the Louisiana Derby, which is a Grade II stakes. He beat out Intense Holiday and Commanding Curve, who will both compete in today's Derby. He also finished third in the Grade II Risen Star, behind Intense Holiday and Albano, respectively, and won the Grade III Lecomte. All three races were on dirt tracks.

Wildcat Red is also coming off an impressive showing, placing second in the Grade I Florida Derby behind Constitution. He also won the Grade II Fountain of Youth and the Grade II Hutcheson, while placing second at both the Gulfstream Park Derby and the Juvenile Sprint.

Our take on this matchup is to lay the -140 odds on Wildcat Red. Vicar's In Trouble is one of the sleepers to place in the Derby but he's never run in a Grade I race, while Wildcat Red's four career wins have come on dirt and he handled the distance of the Grade I Florida Derby just fine. At -140, Wildcat Red isn't necessarily a massive value but he's a solid play nonetheless.

The 2014 Kentucky Derby will take place today at 6:24PM ET, which is the official post time.
