Commanding Curve Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - The 2014 Kentucky Derby takes place on Saturday and Commanding Curve remains one of the long shots.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, California Chrome has stayed steady as the favorite and is now 9/4 to win Saturday's race. Wicked Strong has the next-best odds at 7/1, while Danza is 17/2 and Intense Holiday is 12/1. Samraat is also 16/1, while Wildcat Red, Candy Boy and Ride On Curlin are all 18/1.
Commanding Curve placed third in his most recent start, which came in the Grade II Louisiana Derby. He finished behind Vicar's In Trouble and Intense Holiday, whom will both compete in Saturday's Derby. Commanding Curve's only other start in a graded stakes came on February 22 of this year when he finished sixth.
In his other career starts, he won a MSW on November 30, placed third in a MSW on December 7, placed second in a MSW on September 28, and finished sixth in a MSW on August 31. The only plus to Commanding Curve's limited experience in graded stakes is that at least all six of his starts have come on dirt surfaces.
Commanding Curve drew the No. 17 post position on Wednesday. Since 1970, that post hasn't produced one winner.
The 2014 Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 3 at 6:24PM ET (post time).
