falling sky 2013 kentucky derby odds post positions trends

CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - The odds are stacked against 2013 Kentucky Derby contender Falling Sky, who has long odds to win on Saturday.

Falling Sky finished fourth in his latest race, which was the Grade I Arkansas Derby on April 13. He also placed third at the Grade II Tampa Bay Derby on March 9 and won the Grade II Sam F. Davis on February 2, which was his first race of the year.

John Terranova II is Falling Sky's trainer while Newton Anner Stud, James Covello and Joseph Bulger are his owners. Terranova has trained top stakes contenders Laragh, Negilgee, Ganer, Fanny Freud and Shawdow Caster.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Falling Sky is a 50/1 long shot to win this weekend. Orb is now the favorite at 17/4, while Verrazano is right behind him at 9/2. Revolutionary is 7/1, Normandy Invasion is 10/1, and Overanalyze is 14/1. Both Java's War and Vykack are 18/1, respectively.

Falling Sky drew the No. 13 post position on Wednesday, which has produced four Kentucky Derby winners all-time. The post positions that have won the most Derbies are the rail and the No. 5 post, which have each produced 12 winners apiece. The No. 4 post, meanwhile, has won 11 times.

The 2013 Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 4 at 6:24PM ET (Post Time) from Churchill Downs.
