Charming Kitten Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - Charming Kitten will look to surprise on Saturday when he contends for the 2013 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Charming Kitten is a 33/1 long shot to win this weekend. Orb is the favorite at 17/4, while Verrazano has comparable odds at 9/2. Revolutionary is 7/1, Normandy Invasion is 10/1, and Overanalyze is 14/1. Both Java's War and Vykack are 18/1, respectively.
In his latest race, Charming Kitten finished third behind fellow Kentucky Derby contenders Java's War and Palace Malice at the Grade I Blue Grass on April 13. He also placed second at the Grade III Palm Beach on March 3 and won the Kitten's Joy Stakes on January 20.
Charming Kitten drew the No. 15 post position for Saturday's race, which has produced three Kentucky Derby winners all-time. The post positions that have won the most Derbies are the rail and the No. 5 post, which have each produced 12 winners apiece. The No. 4 post, meanwhile, has won 11 times.
Renowned trainer Todd Pletcher has been working with Charming Kitten, while Edgar Prado is his jockey. Pletcher won the 2010 Kentucky Derby with Super Saver and in 2011 he led all trainers in monies won with Stay Thursday and Awesome Maria. Prado is a three-time US Jockey Champion and winner of the 2006 Eclipse Award for Outstanding jockey.
The 2013 Kentucky Derby will take place on Saturday, May 4 at 6:24PM ET (Post Time) from Churchill Downs.
