Golden Soul Kentucky Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - 2013 Kentucky Derby contender Golden Soul is widely considered a long shot to win this Saturday at Churchill Downs.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Golden Soul is 50/1 to win this year's Kentucky Derby, while Verrazano and Orb are both 4/1 favorites, respectively. Goldencents is also considered one of the favorites at 11/2, while Normandy Invasion is 9/1 and Revolutionary is 10/1.
Golden Soul will come out of the No. 4 post position on Saturday, which has had a lot of success. That post has produced 11 Kentucky Derby winners all time, which is second to only the rail and No. 5 posts, which have produced 12 Derby winners.
Golden Soul has been overly impressive of late, finishing fourth at the Grade II Louisiana Derby on March 30 and sixth at the Grade II Risen Star on February 23. He did place second at the Grade III Lecomte on January 19, but he finished behind fellow Kentucky Derby long shot Oxbow.
Dallas Stewart is Golden Soul's trainer while Robby Albarado is his jockey. Two of Stewart's biggest career wins came with Kentucky Oaks winner Lemon's Forever in 2006 and Breeders Cup winner Unbridled Elaine in 2001. Albarado, meanwhile, has won nearly 4,200 races in his career and was the regular rider of Horse of the Year Curlin, who finished third in the 2007 Kentucky Derby.
The 2013 Kentucky Derby will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 6:24PM ET (Post Time).
