Vyjack Kentucky Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) – Coming off a recent win at the Grade III Gotham Stakes, 2013 Kentucky Derby contender Vyjack will once again look for victory this Saturday at Churchill Downs.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Vyjack is 15/1 to win Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, which ranks him among the mid-range long shots. Verrazano is the current favorite at 7/2, while Orb is 5/1 and both Goldencents and Revolutionary are 7/1, respectively. Normandy Invasion is 8/1.
Vyjack has been a stud throughout his five-race career. He placed third behind Verrazano and Normandy Invasion at the Grade I Wood Memorial on April 6 but he never lost a start previous to that race. He finished first at the Grade III Gotham Stakes on March 2, fist at the Grade II Jerome Handicap on January 1, and first at the Traskwood at Aqueduct on December 9. He also won his Maiden at Aqueduct on November 10 of last year.
Rudy Rodriguez is Vyjack’s trainer and Garrett Gomez is his jockey. Rodriguez’s biggest win came in the Grade I Suburban aboard Frost Giant and Gomez won back-to-back Eclipses for Outstanding Jockey in 2007 and 2008. He has won 10 Breeders’ Cup races and won the Shoemaker Award for top performance by a jockey at the BReeders’ Cup in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2010. He’s appeared in nine Kentucky Derby races with his best finish coming in 2009 on Pioneerofthe Nile, who finished second.
After notching 70 points and $405,000 in total earnings, Vyjack will look to win the 2013 Kentucky Derby, which will be held live at 6:24PM ET (Post Time) on Saturday, May 4.
