Palace Malice Derby Odds
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) - One potential sleeper in this year's Kentucky Derby race might be Palace Malice.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Palace Malice is 33/1 to win the Kentucky Derby, while Verrazano is favored at 7/2. Orb is 5/1, Goldencents and Revolutionary are 7/1, respectively, and Normandy Invasion is 8/1. Vyjack is also 15/1 to win at Churchill Downs this weekend.
Palace Malice finished seventh at the Grade II Louisiana Derby on March 30 but that was the horse's only blemish thus far. He took second at the Grade I Blue Grass on April 13 and finished third at the Grade III Risen Star on February 23. In three non-Graded races, he finished second, first, and second, respectively. Thus, he's only finished out of the money one time in his career.
Todd Pletcher is Palace Malice's trainer and Mike Smith is his jockey. Pletcher won the 2010 Kentucky Derby with Super Saver and won four straight Eclipse Awards as top trainer from 2004-2007, and again in 2010. Smith, meanwhile, guided Giacomo to victory at the 2005 Kentucky Derby and has won both the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, as well as 17 Breeders' Cup races.
Palace Malice notched 50 points this season and has earned $121,135. He'll be a mid-range long shot at this year's Kentucky Derby, which is on Saturday, May 4. Post Time is at 6:24PM ET.
