Carpe Diem Kentucky Derby Preview
CHURCHILL DOWNS, KY (The Spread) – After winning the Blue Grass Stakes earlier this month, Carpe Diem looks to compete in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Carpe Diem is currently 15/2 to win the Kentucky Derby, putting him behind the favorite, American Pharoah (5/2), and Dortmund (4/1) in terms of the odds.
Carpe Diem has won his last two races, taking first in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby on March 7 and then winning the Blue Grass Stakes on April 4 of this month. He also placed second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile in November of 2014 and won the Breeders Futurity on October 14.
Dance With Fate won the Blue Grass Stakes in 2014 and finished sixth in the Kentucky Derby, while Java’s War won in 2013 and finished 13th in the Derby. The last contender to place in the Kentucky Derby that also won the Blue Grass Stakes was Dullahan, who finished third in the 2012 Derby.
