Olympic Luge Team Relay Odds
SOCHI, Russia (The Spread) – The Team Relay luge event at the 2014 Olympics looks to be a race for second. Here is a look at the odds to win the gold in this event.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Germany is the clear favorite to win gold, as it has 1/12 odds to win. Other short odds to win are Canada (9/1) and Italy (12/1).
This is the inaugural team relay for Luge at the Olympics. Germany has always been strong in men’s and women’s competition, as well as doubles. At the 2010 Olympics, the country had four of the six possible individual medals for luge and they also won the bronze in doubles. When it comes to individual world titles, Germany has won five of the last six in men’s events and 14 of the last 15 women’s events. Germany has also won the relay in the last 10 world championship events.
Canada didn’t medal in any of the 2010 Olympic luge events. It hasn’t had much presence in the recent world championships, outside of a pair of thirds in women’s singles. Canada placed second in last year’s world championship and third in 2012.
Italy picked up one of nine medals at the 2010 Olympics. Italy last won the men’s world title in 2011. It also claimed a doubles world title in 2009.
