According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Chiwetel Ejiofor from “12 Years a Slave” is a 10/13 favorite to win Best Actor at this year’s Oscars. Matthew McConaughey of “Dallas Buyers Club” has the next-best odds at 3/2 while Leonardo DiCaprio of “The Wolf of Wall Street” is 7/1 and Bruce Dern of “Nebraska” is 20/1. The actor with the longest odds is Christian Bale of “American Hustle,” who is 40/1.
Ejiofor has received numerous acting awards and nominations throughout his career, including the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award in 2006, five Golden Globe Award nominations, and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor for his performance in “Othello” in 2008.
McConaughey is mostly known, at least in the 2000s, for his work starring in romantic comedies including “The Wedding Planner,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” and “Failure to Launch.” He also starred in “A Time to Kill,” Steven Spielberg’s “Amistad,” and the science fiction drama “Contact.”
DiCaprio has been nominated twice for an Academy Award for Best Actor, inclyuding for his roles in “The Aviator” in 2005 and “Blood Diamond” in 2007. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the 1994 film “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.”
The Oscars will take place on March 2 at 7:00PM ET.
