MELBOURNE, Australia (TheSpread) – The first grand slam tournament of the tennis season is set to begin this weekend. Here is a look at the odds for the men’s Australian Open tournament.

Oddsmakers see Novak Djokovic as the favorite in this tournament with 5/4 odds to win the Australian Open. Other short odds to win are Roger Federer (3/1), Andy Murray (5/1), and Rafael Nadal (5/1). The Australian Open takes place on a hard court surface from Melbourne, Australia.

Djokovic won the Australian Open last year and back in 2008. He won three grand slam tournaments in 2011 and has reached the semifinals in the last six tournaments.

Federer has won the Australian Open four times, the last coming in 2010. That was also his last grand slam championship. Federer has reached the semifinals of the last eight Australian Open tournaments.

Murray has yet to win a grand slam tournament in his career. He has appeared in the semifinals of the last four grand slam tournaments and in the finals of the last two Australian Open’s.

Nadal has won the Australian Open one time, back in 2009. He hasn’t reached the semifinals of the tournament since. Nadal has 10 grand slam championships in his career and he has won four of the last seven grand slam events and reached the final in six of those seven events.
