Olympic Hockey Group A Odds
SOCHI, Russia (The Spread) – Group A appears to be the most competitive group in the 2014 Winter Olympics. Here is a look at the odds to win this group.
Each group features four teams that will play in a round robin series of games. The group winner is assured a bye into the quarterfinals. According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Russia is the favorite in Group A, as it has odds of -200 to win. Other odds are the United States (+175), Slovakia (+900) and Slovenia (+10000).
Russia has failed to medal in ice hockey in the last two Olympics, but was dominant years ago when part of the Soviet Union. Like many of the top teams in ice hockey, Russia will feature a number of NHL stars.
The United States won the silver medal in hockey in two of the last three Olympics. The Americans will also feature a number of top NHL stars, but they haven’t won the gold since 1980.
Slovakia hasn’t ever medaled in ice hockey but the country did finish fourth in the 2010 games and placed fifth in 2006.
Slovenia is playing in the Olympics for the first time in ice hockey, so the expectations for the country are quite low.
The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics begin on Thursday, Feb. 6 and run through Sunday, Feb. 23 in Sochi, Russia. For a look at the odds to win Group A in Men’s Ice Hockey at the event, see blow.
