PITTSBURGH (AP) -Ottawa Senators winger Daniel Alfredsson left late in the first period against Pittsburgh on Wednesday night after absorbing a hit to his upper body.
The Penguins’ Craig Adams hit Alfredsson while his head was down and he was fighting for the puck with a Penguin in the left-wing corner of the Pittsburgh zone, causing Alfredsson’s helmet to fly off and him to lay on the ice for a short period of time. Adams was not penalized on the play.
Alfredsson, who has missed only three games over the course of the past two seasons, leads Ottawa in points (31) and assists (22).
Alfredsson is the longest-tenured captain in the NHL, having been named to the post in October 1999, and is the Senators’ career leader in most relevant categories.
