VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo has experienced soreness in his injured groin and did not join his teammates on a trip to Edmonton for Saturday night’s game against the Oilers.
The Canucks captain left Wednesday’s practice after only 20 minutes.
Coach Alain Vigneault said there still is no timetable for Luongo’s return.
“For some time he has been feeling some soreness when he has been doing some dynamic exercises on the ice,” Vigneault said on the team’s Web site. “It’s not going as quickly as we thought.
“Hopefully it’s week-to-week instead of weeks-to-weeks. He just needs to back off on the ice.”
Luongo strained his groin Nov. 22 in Pittsburgh. The Canucks are 16-10-3 and have 35 points in the Northwest Division, but are 3-4-1 since Luongo’s injury.
Curtis Sanford is expected to get the start against the Oilers.
Luongo has a 11-5-2 record, 2.17 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. He also has five shutouts this season.
