DENVER (AP) – A judge has allowed Colorado Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov (var-LAH’-mawf) to remain free on bond while facing a domestic violence charge involving his girlfriend.
Varlamov appeared in court Monday for a brief hearing, giving yes or no answers to the judge. He said nothing as he left the courtroom with his lawyers.
He has not entered a plea. His agent has said he’s innocent.
The 25-year-old is charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly attacking his girlfriend at their apartment on Oct. 30.
According to an arrest affidavit, she said he knocked her down with a kick, stomped on her chest and dragged her by her hair.
Varlamov is one of NHL’s hottest goalies and helped the Avalanche to a franchise-best 19-6 start.
He’s been traveling and playing with the team.
