NEW YORK (AP) Vincent Trochek and Aleksander Barkov scored in the shootout to lift the Florida Panthers over the New York Rangers 3-2 at Madison Square Garden in the NHL on Sunday.
The Panthers trailed twice but came back behind goals from Keith Yandle and Aaron Ekblad.
”We’re a pretty happy team with the wins we are stringing together,” Ekblad said. ”We look to play tight games and limit chances.”
James Reimer played a big hand in the win, making 33 saves and stopping two more shots during the shootout.
”He had a great bounce back game for him,” Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said. ”I’m real happy for him. The team worked hard … but he had a huge effort tonight. That gave us the two points.”
Henrik Lundqvist made 28 saves in his 700th start while Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad scored for New York.
In Washington, Alexander Wennberg’s last-minute power play goal gave the Columbus Blue Jackets their fourth straight win, 3-2 over the Capitals.
Alex Ovechkin’s ninth goal of the season midway through the second period gave the Capitals a 2-1 lead, but the Blue Jackets tied it 14 seconds into the third period on Brandon Dubinsky’s second goal of the season.
Washington’s Nicklas Backstrom was called for high-sticking Nick Foligno with 1:34 remaining. Wennberg took a pass from Foligno and slammed it past Capitals goalie Braden Holtby for the winner.
”Sometimes it seemed like they took over the game more and more but we started to play smart and at the end of the game we felt like we played smart and got opportunity to score,” Wennberg said. ”Find a way to win. It’s as easy as that.”
Over in California, Jeff Carter scored twice and got his 600th career point while Peter Budaj made 28 saves as the Los Angeles Kings beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2.
Carter assisted on Drew Doughty’s score early in the second period and then added power-play goals 71 seconds apart to make it 3-0.
”It’s cool,” Carter said. ”I’ll shoot for 700 now.”
Antoine Vermette and Rickard Rakell scored for Anaheim while John Gibson made 26 saves.
”Usually these games are full of emotion, but we just didn’t have any response,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said.
Mikael Backlund scored with 7:46 left in the third period to give the Calgary Flames a 3-2 victory over the slumping Detroit Red Wings.
Garnet Hathaway got his first career goal and Matt Stajan also scored for Calgary. Flames defenseman Dougie Hamilton had three assists and Chad Johnson stopped 21 shots.
Tomas Tatar and Anthony Mantha scored for Detroit, which lost its fourth straight. Jimmy Howard made 23 saves.
Backlund broke a 2-all tie when he slammed Michael Frolik’s pass from the left circle past Howard and into the open side of the net. It was Backlund’s second goal.
Victor Rask got his eighth goal of the season and 19-year-old Noah Hanifin scored his first to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-1 for its fourth straight win.
Elias Lindholm also got his first goal this season in the first period and the Hurricanes kept up the pressure from there, challenging goalie Connor Hellebuyck with 40 shots.
