LOS ANGELES (AP) -Left wing Ryan Smyth could be out of the Los Angeles Kings’ lineup for a month because of an upper body injury.
Smyth has nine goals and 14 assists in his first 22 games with the Kings, who acquired him from Colorado during the offseason. The 15-year NHL veteran has been a major contributor in Los Angeles’ solid start while teaming with league scoring leader Anze Kopitar on the Kings’ top line.
The Kings aren’t disclosing the nature of Smyth’s injury. He didn’t return after the second period of a game at Florida on Monday.
Alexander Frolov is expected to take Smyth’s spot at left wing on the top line for the Kings, who hosted Philadelphia on Wednesday night.
Defenseman Rob Scuderi also sat out due to a lower body injury.
