-Nikolai Zherdev, Rangers, scored the only goal in a shootout and New York's Henrik Lundqvist denied all three Ottawa shooters in a 2-1 victory.
-Roberto Luongo, Canucks, made 34 saves against the team that let him get away, but couldn't stop Frans Nielsen in a shootout as the New York Islanders beat Vancouver 2-1.
St. Louis center Andy McDonald is expected to be sidelined eight weeks after breaking his left leg during a 3-2 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday. MRI results revealed no further damage and surgery is not required. He isn't expected back until at least mid-January for a Blues team that is currently 15th in the Western Conference standings.

The Colorado Avalanche signed 22-year-old center Paul Stastny to a five-year contract extension through the 2013-2014 season. A second-round draft pick in 2005, Stastny scored 78 points in 2006-07, finishing second to Evgeni Malkin for the Calder Trophy honoring the league's top rookie. That year, he set an NHL rookie record by scoring points in 20 straight games.
