DETROIT (AP) -Marian Hossa's decision to leave Pittsburgh to sign with Detroit will only be validated if he helps the Red Wings hoist the Stanley Cup.
Hossa's former teammates, though, can feel good about beating him in their first shot.
Jordan Staal had a hat trick in the third period and set up Ruslan Fedotenko's winning goal with 1:11 in overtime, lifting the Penguins to a 7-6 comeback win over the Red Wings on Tuesday night.
Hossa had two assists against the team he left as a free agent to chase a Cup in Detroit, signing a one-year deal instead of staying in Pittsburgh for a longer and more lucrative contract.
Detroit's Jiri Hudler scored midway through the third, seemingly sealing the victory by giving the defending champions a two-goal lead in the Stanley Cup rematch.
But Staal's second goal with 4:09 left pulled Pittsburgh within one, then he forced overtime by scoring on a rebound off star defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom.

Canadiens 4, Senators 0
MONTREAL (AP) - Chris Higgins scored three goals and Carey Price got his first shutout of the season to lead Montreal to the win.
Higgins scored a short-handed goal 7:22 in before extending the Canadiens' lead to 2-0 with his second of the game 14:11 into the second.
The Smithtown, N.Y., native completed his first career hat trick when he scored Montreal's fourth goal on a breakaway 16:35 into the third.
Guillaume Latendresse also scored for Montreal, which had lost consecutive games (0-1-1) for the first time this season.
Price stopped 28 shots, including a right pad save on Dany Heatley's breakaway shot 7:36 into the third, for his fourth career shutout.
Alex Auld made 27 saves for Ottawa, which lost its second straight after going unbeaten in regulation over its previous five games (4-0-1).
Flames 4, Maple Leafs 3
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Dustin Boyd had two goals and Calgary held on for the win.
Jarome Iginla and Dion Phaneuf also scored for the Flames, who had lost four of their last five. Miikka Kiprusoff made 29 saves.
Boyd gave Calgary a 4-1 lead at 11:13 in the third for his first career two-goal game. He fired in a rebound after Vesa Toskala stopped Marc Giordano's slap shot.
Antropov and Matt Stajan, with 54 seconds remaining, set up an exciting finish. Alexei Ponikarovsky also scored for Toronto.
Flyers 3, Islanders 1
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Danny Briere gave the Flyers a second-period lead before leaving with another injury, and Martin Biron made 35 saves for Philadelphia.
With former Secretary of State Colin Powell on hand for the Veterans Day matinee, Briere staked the Flyers to a 1-0 advantage but didn't get back on the ice following his fifth goal of the season - all scored in his past four games.
Briere, who has scored in four straight games, made a quick return following abdominal surgery. He said he was ``playing it on the cautious side'' when he left with the lower body injury, and said it had nothing to do with the surgery.
Mike Richards and Kimmo Timonen also scored as Philadelphia snapped a three-game losing streak.
Trent Hunter had New York's only goal.
