DENVER (AP) -Colorado captain Joe Sakic missed the Avalanche’s game Thursday night against Minnesota because of a strained lower back.
The 39-year-old Sakic, injured during practice Wednesday, took part in the morning skate Thursday but left the ice early. He’s listed as day-to-day and will be evaluated before Colorado’s game Saturday against Nashville.
Sakic, eighth on the NHL’s career scoring list with 1,641 points, has two goals and 10 assists in 12 games this season.
The Avalanche recalled forward T.J. Hensick from Lake Erie of the American Hockey League to take Sakic’s place in the lineup.
The Avalanche also scratched defensemen Scott Hannan (flu-like symptoms) and Daniel Tjarnqvist (foot) and recalled defenseman Kyle Cumsikey from Lake Erie. To make room on the 23-man roster, the Avalanche sent forward David Jones to Lake Erie.
