DETROIT (AP) - Derick Brassard's breakaway goal in the closing seconds of overtime gave the New York Rangers a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.
Brassard scored his first of the season with only 12.9 seconds showing on the OT clock to give the Rangers their first win in Detroit since Jan. 30, 1999.
Benoit Pouliot had a goal and an assist and Mats Zuccarello also scored for New York, which rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits in the final game of its season-opening, nine-game road trip. Cam Talbot stopped 32 shots while filling in for injured regular Henrik Lundqvist.
The Rangers (3-6), who went to overtime for the first time this season, will host Montreal in the opener at renovated Madison Square Garden on Monday.
Drew Miller and Daniel Alfredsson scored for Detroit, which lost its fourth straight. Jimmy Howard made 37 saves.
DEVILS 4, BRUINS 3
BOSTON (AP) - Marek Zidlicky and Andy Greene scored power-play goals 23 seconds apart late in the third period and New Jersey snapped a seven-game losing streak against Boston.
Torey Krug, Jarome Iginla and Milan Lucic scored first-period goals for Boston (7-3).
Adam Henrique and Damien Brunner also had power-play goals for the struggling Devils. Martin Brodeur stopped 25 shots after a rough start.
Iginla and David Krejci each had two assists as Boston built a 3-1 lead.
FLYERS 5, ISLANDERS 2
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) - Vinny Lecavalier scored three goals in Philadelphia's biggest offensive outburst of the season, and Steve Mason made 26 saves in the victory over New York.
The Flyers (3-7) hadn't scored more than two goals in any of their first nine games. One more and they would have become the first NHL team to have a season-opening run of 10 games without three goals since the 1940 New York Americans.
Philadelphia has won two straight since a franchise-worst 1-7 start.
Jakub Voracek and Matt Read also scored, and former Islanders captain Mark Streit added two assists.
Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen had goals, and Kevin Poulin made 27 saves for the Islanders.
LIGHTNING 3, SABRES 2
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Ondrej Palat and Martin St. Louis scored third-period goals to help Tampa Bay rally past Buffalo.
After St. Louis pulled the Lightning even at 14:09, Palat made it 3-2 from the low slot 1:46 later.
Tyler Johnson had the other Tampa Bay goal as the Lightning completed a seven-game homestand with a 5-2 record.
Brian Flynn and Thomas Vanek scored for Buffalo, which was coming off a 3-1 win at Florida on Friday night in which the Sabres were outshot 45-21.
Buffalo took a 2-1 lead when Vanek scored from the low left circle after taking a nifty pass from Marcus Foligno 12:46 into the third. Vanek has 24 goals and 39 points in 33 games against Tampa Bay.
SHARKS 2, CANADIENS 0
MONTREAL (AP) - Antti Niemi made 22 saves, Logan Couture scored twice and San Jose beat Montreal for the first time in four attempts at the Bell Centre since December 2002.
Carey Price made 35 saves for Montreal.
After a scoreless first period in which San Jose outshot Montreal 11-8, Couture scored a power-play goal at 6:20 of the second period.
Captain Joe Thornton sent a precise pass onto Couture's stick and the 24-year-old made no mistake from close range for his fifth goal of the year.
Couture doubled the Sharks' lead at 4:09 of the third when Patrick Marleau's dump-in bounced off the glass and landed on Couture's stick in front of a gaping net.
COYOTES 5, OILERS 4
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored on a power play in the third period after Keith Yandle made a spectacular play to keep the puck in the zone, lifting Phoenix over Edmonton.
Phoenix scored three goals in the first six minutes of the second period against former teammate Jason LaBarbera to go up 3-1, but Edmonton rallied to take the lead with three goals spanning the second and third periods.
Ekman-Larsson set up Yandle for the tying goal midway through the third with his second assist, then beat LaBarbera with a shot from the point after Yandle dove to keep the puck in Edmonton's zone.
Michael Stone and David Schlemko also scored for the Coyotes, who had four goals and three assists from their defensemen. Martin Hanzal added his third goal in two games and Radim Vrbata had three assists.
Ryan Jones, David Perron, Will Acton and Tyler Pitlick scored for the Oilers. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins added two assists.
MAPLE LEAFS 4, PENGUINS 1
TORONTO (AP) - Dave Bolland scored two goals and James Reimer had 37 saves to lead Toronto past Pittsburgh.
Making his first start since Oct. 17, when he left with a head injury after 32 seconds, Reimer was stellar after giving up a power-play goal to Kris Letang at 6:52 of the first.
Reimer made a highlight-reel right-pad save on Pascal Dupuis on a 2-on-1 rush and used a quick glove hand to make a series of saves while the Leafs were again being outshot.
Nazem Kadri and Phil Kessel also scored for Toronto.
JETS 2, STARS 1, SO
DALLAS (AP) - Andrew Ladd scored the only goal in the shootout, Ondrej Pavelec made 35 saves and Winnipeg beat Dallas to snap a three-game skid.
Evander Kane scored at 3:28 of the second for the Jets, who played past regulation for the third straight game and fourth in the past five.
Stephane Robidas pulled Dallas even at 6:36 of the third and Kari Lehtonen had 37 saves for Dallas, including four in the final minute of overtime.
After Lane MacDermid hit the post and Alex Chiasson was stuffed easily by Pavelec in the shootout, Ladd beat Lehtonen on the glove side. The Jets got the win when Ray Whitney missed wide.
