EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) – Defenseman Jake Muzzin has agreed to a five-year, $20 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Kings.
The defending Stanley Cup champion Kings announced the deal Wednesday. Muzzin’s new deal keeps him with the Kings through the 2019-20 season.
Los Angeles signed Muzzin as a free agent in January 2010 after he went undrafted in 2009, and he has evolved into a solid NHL defenseman over the past two seasons. He frequently plays alongside Drew Doughty in the Kings’ top defensive pairing.
Muzzin has 41 points in 132 regular-season games for the Kings, and he added 15 points in 43 playoff games over the past two seasons. He led all NHL defensemen with six playoff goals last season during the Kings’ championship run.
