BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) The Buffalo Sabres have signed the architect of their rebuilding plan, general manager Tim Murray, to a multiyear contract extension.
The team announced the move on its Twitter account Thursday, about an hour before the Sabres opened the regular season by hosting the Montreal Canadiens. The team did not reveal details of the contract.
Murray is entering his second full season with the Sabres after being hired in January 2014. He replaced Darcy Regier, who was fired two months earlier.
In that time, Murray has undertaken a top-to-bottom overhaul of the Sabres’ roster, purging high-priced and aging veterans. He has rebuilt the team through trades and the draft.
After finishing last in 2013-14 and 2014-15, the Sabres jumped to 23rd in the NHL standings last year with a 35-36-11 record.
