GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -The Phoenix Coyotes recalled forward Francis Lessard from the minors Wednesday so he can begin serving his three-game NHL suspension for a preseason incident.
Lessard received a boarding major and game misconduct for his hit on Anaheim’s Ryan Donally on Sept. 19. The NHL suspended Lessard five days later for Phoenix’s final two preseason games and three regular-season games.
The Coyotes had assigned the 30-year-old Lessard to their AHL affiliate in San Antonio.
Lessard had two goals, two assists and an AHL-leading 324 penalty minutes last season for the Rampage, becoming the seventh player in AHL history to reach 2,000 career penalty minutes.
Lessard, a third-round draft pick of Carolina in 1997, has played in 91 NHL games.
