RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -The Carolina Hurricanes are expected to announce the signing of All-Star center Eric Staal to a long-term contract.
The Hurricanes called an afternoon news conference Thursday to make a “major player announcement.” A person familiar with their plans told The Associated Press the Hurricanes will announce Staal’s signing. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement had not yet been made.
The 23-year-old two-time All-Star will make $5 million this season, the final year of his three-year contract.
Agent Rick Curran did not immediately return a message left by the AP.
