PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed college free agent forward Thomas DiPauli to a two-year, entry-level contract.
DiPauli was originally a fourth-round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2012. He became a free agent Tuesday when the team didn’t sign him.
The 22-year-old who was born in Italy and grew up in the Chicago suburb of Downers Grove, Illinois, played four seasons at Notre Dame. DiPauli had 30 goals and 48 assists in that time.
Last season DiPauli set career highs with 14 goals, 18 assists and 32 points in his senior season with the Irish.
The 5-foot-11, 197-pounder also was part of the U.S. National Team Development program from 2010-12 and played at the world junior championship in 2014.
