HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (AP) -Sidney Crosby has arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to celebrate his 22nd birthday by bringing the Stanley Cup home.
A military helicopter carrying the Pittsburgh Penguins star landed on the flight deck of the HCMS Preserver at the Halifax Dockyard on Friday. He emerged holding the cup over his head to begin a visit to Halifax and the suburban community of Cole Harbour – his hometown.
Hundreds of military members and their families greeted Crosby, along with Defense Minister Peter MacKay and Rear Admiral Paul Maddison. After addressing the crowd, he was to lead a parade through Cole Harbour.
The Penguins won the Stanley Cup finals in seven games against the Detroit Red Wings, making Crosby the youngest team captain ever to win the cup.
