ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -The Minnesota Wild signed defenseman Tomas Mojzis to a multiyear contract on Monday.
The 26-year-old Czech has 13 games of NHL experience, with Vancouver and St. Louis. He played in 28 games last season in the Russian Continental League, tallying two goals and two assists. He was an eighth-round pick by Toronto in the 2001 draft.
After injuries left them thin in the playoffs last spring, the Wild now have a crowd at the blue line.
Brent Burns, Kim Johnsson, Nick Schultz, Marek Zidlicky, Marc-Andre Bergeron, Martin Skoula, Kurtis Foster and Erik Reitz are all under contract. Foster is rehabilitating from a broken leg, but Mojzis and fellow prospects Shawn Belle and Clayton Stoner appear to be the best bets among defensemen to start the season in the minors unless there’s an injury.
