PITTSBURGH (AP) -The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Janne Pesonen and defenseman Ben Lovejoy to one-year contracts on Monday.
Pesonen, of Suomussalmi, Finland, had 34 goals and 44 assists with Oulu Karpat to lead the Finnish Elite League last season. The 26-year-old helped lead Karpat to its fifth league championship with seven goals and nine assists during the postseason.
He was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Lovejoy signed to a one-year entry-level contract with the Penguins. The Canaan, N.H., native played last season in 72 games for the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who acquired him as a free agent on June 14, 2007. He had two goals and 18 assists.
