Kostopoulos, the third free agent to sign with Montreal, had seven goals and 15 assists in 76 games last season with the Los Angeles Kings. He has 70 points (25 goals, 45 assists) in 231 career NHL games with the Kings and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The signing was announced Wednesday by Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey.
Montreal has been active in the offseason, signing defenseman Roman Hamrlik to a four-year, $22 million contract, and center Bryan Smolinski to a one-year, $2 million deal on Monday.
Along with Smolinski, the 28-year-old Kostopoulos helps replace departed free agents Radek Bonk, who signed with Nashville, and Mike Johnson.
Kostopoulos, a 6-foot, 205-pound right winger, was taken in the seventh round by the Penguins in the 1999 NHL draft.
