ATLANTA (AP) -The Atlanta Thrashers signed free agent defenseman Ron Hainsey to add size and youth to their blue line.
A person familiar with the negotiations confirmed the signing to The Associated Press but requested anonymity because the Thrashers had not yet made a formal announcement on the deal.
Hainsey, 27, was a first-round pick by Montreal in 2000. He spent the last three years with Columbus and had eight goals and 24 assists last season.
The 6-foot-3, 211-pound Hainsey made his NHL debut with Montreal in 2002. He was the 13th overall pick in the 2000 draft.
