TORONTO (AP) – Stephane Robidas signed a three-year, $9 million deal with Toronto on Tuesday as the Maple Leafs continue to overhaul their defense.
Robidas broke his leg during the playoffs while playing for the Anaheim Ducks.
He has played 885 games with the Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars, Chicago Blackhawks and Ducks. Robidas has 56 goals and 195 assists.
The addition of Robidas gives the Leafs three right-handed shots with Roman Polak and Cody Franson. Dion Phaneuf had been playing the right side despite shooting left.
Earlier Tuesday, the Leafs reacquired forward Matt Frattin by trading wing Jerry D’Amigo to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Toronto traded Frattin to the Los Angeles Kings in June 2013 as part of the deal for goaltender Jonathan Bernier. The Kings sent Frattin to Columbus at the 2014 deadline as part of the deal that got them Marian Gaborik.
Frattin has 17 goals and 18 assists in 126 games. The Leafs also got a conditional seventh-round pick in 2015 as part of the trade.
