BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Veteran forward Adam Mair re-signed with the Sabres on Saturday, avoiding free agency with a three-year, $2.275 million contract.
He'll make $750,000 in each of the first two seasons and $775,000 in the final season, receiving a slight raise above the $675,000 he made with Buffalo last year. The deal was reached a day before the NHL's free agency period begins.
A seven-year NHL veteran who has spent the past four seasons with Buffalo, Mair is a hard-checking fourth-line player. He had two goals and nine assists in 82 games last season and added a career-high five points (one goal, four assists) in 16 playoff games.
``Adam is an important part of this team and we are glad to have him under contract,'' general manager Darcy Regier said. ``He brings veteran leadership and a passionate physical presence.''
Mair's signing comes at a time when the Sabres stand to lose co-captains Chris Drury and Daniel Briere to free agency. Briere announced he'll test the market, while Drury is expected to follow.
Drury's agent, Mark Witkin, and the Sabres have declined to discuss the status of negotiations.
