TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -The Tampa Bay Lightning bought out the final season of goalie Marc Denis’ contract Wednesday.
Denis, who appeared in 54 games with Tampa Bay, was due to earn $3 million next season. He spent much of last season with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League, playing in just 10 games for the Lightning.
“Needless to say, we are all sorry things didn’t work out differently for Marc with our organization,” general manager Jay Feaster said.
Tampa Bay obtained Denis from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Fredrik Modin and Fredrik Norrena in June 2006.
The Lightning also announced that Hall of Famer Bill Barber resigned as director of player personnel and former NHL player and agent Brian Lawton was named vice president of hockey operations.
Barber had been with the Lightning since 2002, joining them after 18 years as a coach and scout in the Philadelphia Flyers organization. Lawton, who played for six teams during his NHL career, has been a player agent for the past 14 years.
