BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) A person with direct knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press that the Buffalo Sabres have hired Phil Housley to be their next coach.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity Thursday because the Sabres have not yet announced the move.
Housley is a Hall of Fame defenseman who was selected by Buffalo in the first round of the 1982 draft. He has worked as an assistant coach with the Nashville Predators.
He replaces Dan Bylsma, who was fired with general manager Tim Murray in April.
