MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Minnesota Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher plans to hire a new coach by the June 26 draft.
Fletcher spoke on a conference call with reporters Friday. He has been meeting people in the organization and plotting strategy with team scouts about the draft and free agency in the two weeks since he was hired.
Fletcher has a head start on the hiring process because he went through it earlier this year with Pittsburgh. The Penguins made a midseason coaching change and are currently in the Stanley Cup finals.
Fletcher also said he’s spoken with free-agent-to-be Marian Gaborik (GA’-buh-rik), but declined to comment on whether they’ve begun talking about a new contract.
