DETROIT (AP) -Thanks to the Los Angeles Lakers, the NHL will have prime time to itself on Sunday night.
The NHL announced Saturday that Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals will begin at 8 p.m. EDT, matching the start time for the other six games of the series between the defending champion Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The original series schedule didn’t list a time for the game. The Lakers elimination of the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference finals on Friday night ensured there wouldn’t be an NBA game on Sunday. That leaves the prime-time block open to the NHL.
The Stanley Cup finals, a rematch of last year’s championship round, will start in Detroit on Saturday night.
