DETROIT (AP) -The Detroit Red Wings re-signed forward Kirk Maltby to a three-year contract, but the deal was not announced until recently.
“It actually happened before the playoffs,” Maltby said Friday. “But I didn’t want to talk about it and we were on the same page.”
Detroit hosts the San Jose Sharks on Saturday in the Western Conference semifinal that is tied 2-2.
Maltby has one assist in 10 playoff games this season and 28 points in 129 career postseason games, all with the Red Wings since 1996. He helped Detroit win Stanley Cups in 1997, ’98 and 2002.
Since making his debut with the Edmonton Oilers during the 1993-94 season, Maltby has 233 career points.
