ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -Doug Risebrough says he was “shocked” by the Minnesota Wild’s decision to fire him and end his nearly 10-year tenure as the franchise’s first general manager.
But Risebrough said he respects new owner Craig Leipold’s decision to change leaders and looks forward to his next job in the NHL. He spoke to the media Tuesday for the first time since being told a week ago by Leipold his contract would not be renewed.
Risebrough’s successor will have to hire a coach, after Jacques Lemaire’s resignation also left the Wild without the only bench boss they’ve had since entering the league in 2000.
