BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Tim Murray’s vision of rebuilding the Buffalo Sabres should involve less anguish and more talent. And the rookie general manager doesn’t expect it will take a long time to accomplish.
Murray delivered his message Tuesday, two days after the Sabres closed one of the worst and most tumultuous seasons in their 44-year history.
Murray was direct in calling the Sabres’ last-place finish ”unacceptable,” and laid the blame on everyone, from management on down to players.
He made it a point to steer clear of bracing Sabres fans for more suffering ahead. That was a distinct departure from the message Murray’s predecessor, Darcy Regier, issued a year earlier.
In fact, he refused to say ”suffering.” Murray says he has no intention of embarking on a five-year rebuilding process.
