SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -Sharks captain Patrick Marleau and high-scoring forward Ryane Clowe expect to return to San Jose’s lineup Thursday night for the NHL-leading club’s regular-season home finale.
With Marleau and Clowe finally joining several teammates who have returned from injuries in recent days, the Sharks (53-16-11, 117 points) can clinch the Presidents’ Trophy for the league’s best record with a victory over the Phoenix Coyotes.
San Jose has stayed atop the league despite significant injury problems, including lower-body injuries for Marleau and Clowe. Marleau has missed five games, including Tuesday night’s 1-0 shootout win over Colorado, while Clowe has been sidelined since March 19.
Mike Grier and Claude Lemieux returned from long-term injury absences against the Avalanche, while new defenseman Kent Huskins could soon be ready to play after foot surgery.
