PHILADELPHIA (AP) -The Flyers recalled defenseman Danny Syvret under emergency conditions from the Philadelphia Phantoms, their American Hockey League affiliate.
Syvret was scratched from the lineup Thursday night when the Flyers played the Florida Panthers.
“We had a sickness issue with one of our defensemen, but the player is fine,” Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said.
The 23-year-old Syvret is scoreless in two previous games with the Flyers this season. He has 11 goals and 37 assists in 66 games with the Phantoms.
Syvret was acquired by the Flyers from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forward Ryan Potulny on June 6.
The Flyers also agreed to terms with free-agent goaltender Johan Backlund on a one-year contract, general manager Paul Holmgren said.
In 49 games with Timra of the Swedish Elite League this season, the 27-year-old Backlund has a 2.56 goals against average, .907 save percentage and four shutouts.
